To treat your heel pain it’s key to understand what is driving the inflammation around the heel. Once we’ve ascertained this, I would hope that through simple physiotherapy you’d be able to improve a significant amount of this pain. There are then further interventions that can be done to improve this, but ultimately I would hope that through your own activities you could prevent the need to proceed to surgery. For the patients that don’t respond to physiotherapy, there are surgical options, but this would be a last resort. The common surgical procedures I need to perform for heel pain are releasing the calf muscle to try to take the tension out of the calf foot system.
