SPINE

Conditions Diagnosed & Treated

Below is an outline of some of the major paediatric orthopaedics disorders that we screen, but typically most paediatric orthopaedic conditions that warrant a specialist referral can be successfully investigated through our team. If your child is suffering from any orthopaedic or sport issue and are looking for definitive medical support then please let us know. If surgical treatment is required, then we will refer to you a specialist paediatric spinal consultant in the field.

SPinal conditions

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a spinal condition that involves an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine, often seen in paediatric patients.

Screening for the condition of scoliosis is important, especially during adolescence, to detect any spinal curvature early and initiate appropriate management.

Monitoring of scoliosis involves regular assessments of the spinal curvature’s progression, which is crucial in paediatric patients to determine the need for treatment.

Kyphosis

Kyphosis is a condition characterized by an excessive forward curvature of the spine, leading to a hunched or rounded back, sometimes seen in children.

Scheuermann's Disease

Scheuermann’s Disease is a specific form of kyphosis that typically develops during adolescence and may require monitoring and treatment in paediatric patients.

Screening for the condition of Scheuermann’s Disease should be considered during routine check-ups to detect any abnormal spinal curvature in children.

Monitoring of Scheuermann’s Disease involves tracking the progression of the spinal curvature and assessing the need for interventions in paediatric patients.

Back pain

Back pain can occur in children and may be related to various factors, including spinal conditions, requiring evaluation and management.

Cervical, thoracic, or lumbar back pain can be indicative of different underlying issues, and thorough assessment is essential for paediatric patients experiencing such discomfort.
