In about 65% of people who have arthritis in their knee, only one half of the knee will be affected by arthritis. What this means is that instead of performing a total knee replacement, only that side of the knee that’s affected by arthritis can be replaced in these patients. One of the great things about this is that it’s a smaller incision, it’s a shorter stay in hospital, and the knee feels much more natural after the procedure. There’s less blood loss, less risk of infection, and I think it’s a fantastic option for the vast majority of patients that come to my clinic with an arthritic knee.
