Talus Trauma Post

Nov 4, 2022 | Foot + Ankle, General News

Here we see a case managed by Mr Sinnett, our Foot and Ankle Specialist and expert in Trauma care. A 24 year old lady was knocked off her bike by a car resulting in a fracture dislocation of her talus. This is the bone that moves within the ankle joint.

These are her initial CT images showing a dislocation and fracture of the talus.

These injuries are notoriously difficult to manage and normally require a surgical procedure just to get the bone back into joint. On this occasion, Mr Sinnett was able to realign the fracture whilst the patient had some sedation in the A&E department. These are the X-rays after fracture reduction.

2 weeks later, once the swelling had settled, the patient underwent surgical fixation. At 3 months following her surgery, the fracture has healed well!
