Mr Luke Jones was delighted to welcome Laurence Robichaud, Vice President of Bodycad, and Tom Gilbert from Hospital Innovations for a recent osteotomy case.
Luke said “Osteotomy, which is a realignment of a bone, can be helpful for patients who have bone deformity or early arthritis in their knee. Until recently, the use of osteotomy was very limited as surgical accuracy was poor. This accounted for many less-than-ideal outcomes. I spent some time looking at this as part of my PhD.
Bodycad has transformed the accuracy and success of this operation. It offers 3D analysis of the patient’s pre-op situation, patient-specific instrument and plate design, 3D printed bone models, personalized surgical guides, and personalized plate solutions. This patient specific design leads to better accuracy and outcomes.
In this case, a young patient had knee pain due to deformity in the tibia. This occurred secondary to a fracture that had disturbed their growth plates as a child. The accuracy of the correction that BC Fine Osteotomy achieved is fantastic and should allow a return to pain free function.
It is unusual to come across an innovation in surgery that completely revolutionises the way an operation is performed, but Bodycad has successfully done so.”
