Isolated non reparable cartilage defects in the knee are an uncommon but serious problem. When they do occur, they have potentially lifelong implications.
Luke Jones, Consultant Knee Surgeon said “Whilst it is always best to fix cartilage defects in the knee, sometimes it just isn’t possible. In this case, an adolescent footballer suffered a patella dislocation leading to an isolated lateral femoral condyle chondral lesion. It was not reparable, so we elected to undertake an innovative regenerative cartilage procedure, Autocart. The recovery starts now for this young man.”
Thanks to David Schwab and Ollie Cucksey from Arthrex UK for providing their expertise in supporting this case. Great teamwork!
